TEMPLEUX-LE-GUÉRARD BRITISH CEMETERY. FR 1495

Source: The War Graves of the British Empire. France Volume 30, FR 1461 - FR 1699.

Notes:
A huge amount of work was done by the Imperial War Graves Commission which later became the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The entries below are recorded in the above volume from details furnished by Record Offices and next-of-kin. Families were contacted where possible and asked what they would wish to be included on each inscription, families were allowed to pay for up to 66 characters to be inscribed on the headstone. They could have any other information recorded in these memorial books.
The following men are the only members of their battalion in this Cemetery.
All of these men had also formerly been in The South Irish Horse, except where noted. (See details on list of SIH dead).
The first 21 men in the list below were all killed in action, and are believed to be those 21 men killed when a long range artillery shell hit their area on 12th December 1917 near St. Emilie. Over 40 men were wounded in the same incident.
* The two men with this mark, Andrew Joseph Connellan and Arthur Bell Thomson are recorded in "Soldiers Died ,Volume 23, The Royal Irish Regt"  with different spellings vis. Andrew Conlon and Arthur Thompson.
The last 8 men in the list below were all killed in action on 21st March 1918 on the first day of the German "Kaiserschlact" offensive. 77 men from the battalion were killed in action on that day. (See South Irish Horse page).
^The four men so marked had not served in the South Irish Horse.
